Ringing your first sale

Walk through a complete sale, from adding items to the cart to taking payment.

By the end of this article, you have rung up and completed one full sale on the register.

Before you start

A drawer session has to be open before the register will let you charge a sale. If you see a message saying no cash drawer is open, follow the Open one link it shows, or see Opening a drawer session with a starting float.

Add items to the cart

There are three ways to add an item on the register screen:

  • Scan it. Click into the Scan barcode field at the top and scan the item. A matching product adds itself to the cart.
  • Tap it. Use the category tabs to find the item in the product grid, then tap its tile.
  • Type a custom price. Click + Custom Price, enter a name and a price, and click Add to cart. This is for anything not already in your product list.

Each line in the cart shows its quantity with - and + buttons, so you can adjust it without removing and re-adding the item.

Attach a customer (optional)

To attach a regular to the sale, search for them by name, phone or email in the Customer field above the cart and select them from the results. Leave it blank for a walk-in sale.

Take payment

  1. Once the cart has what the customer is buying, click Charge.
  2. In the payment window, choose Cash, Card or Store Credit.
    • For cash, enter the amount tendered.
    • For card, enter the card details in the field shown. This runs through your connected Accept.blue account; see Taking a card payment.
    • Store Credit is only selectable once a customer with a credit balance is attached to the sale.
  3. Click Charge again to complete it.

The screen switches to a completed-sale view showing the receipt. If Automatically print a receipt after every sale is turned on in Receipt settings, it also prints at this point.

A sale cannot be charged with an empty cart, and cash needs an amount typed in before the Charge button in the payment window becomes clickable.
