Taking a card payment

Charge a card at the register once your Accept.blue account is connected.

By the end of this article, you have charged a card for a sale at the register.

Before you start

A card payment needs your Accept.blue merchant account connected first. Without that, the Card option in the payment window still appears, but the charge will fail.

Charge a card

  1. Build the sale in the cart, then click Charge.
  2. In the payment window, select Card. It is selected by default.
  3. Enter the card number, expiry and CVV in the card field. This field is a hosted widget supplied by Accept.blue, not a form built into Novella POS, so the raw card number is sent straight to the gateway and never passes through or gets stored on this machine.
  4. Click Charge to run the transaction for the full sale total.

If the card is declined or the connection to Accept.blue fails, an error appears in the payment window and the sale is not recorded. Try again once the issue is resolved.

Cash discount or surcharge programs

If the store runs a cash-discount or card-surcharge pricing program, the payment window shows the card price and the cash price side by side so you can see the difference before choosing a tender. See Setting up a cash-discount or card-surcharge program.
