Using the Sales Summary as an X or Z report
How the same live Sales Summary report covers both a mid-shift check and an end-of-day total.
By the end of this article, you know how to use the Sales Summary the way you would use an X report or a Z report on a traditional register.
There is one report, not two
Novella POS does not have separate X and Z report buttons. The Sales Summary is a live query over whatever date range you choose, and reading it never resets or closes anything. That is what makes it work as both.
As an X report
Run the Sales Summary with Today selected at any point during a shift to see how the day looks so far: transactions, gross sales, discounts, tax, net total and the tender breakdown, all current as of that moment. Checking it does not affect the numbers or reset anything, so you can pull it up as many times as you want during the day.
As a Z report
At the end of the day, run the same Today view after the last sale has been rung up. Since nothing about running the report resets or closes the count, the “closing” step is really closing the drawer session, where the cash count is reconciled separately. The Sales Summary for Today at that point is your end-of-day total, and it stays available under Yesterday the next day if you need to check it again.
