Voiding a sale and reversing a card charge

Void a completed sale from Sales History, with any card charge reversed automatically.

By the end of this article, you have voided a completed sale and, if it was paid by card, confirmed the charge was reversed.

Voiding requires an admin

Only an admin login can void a transaction. Signed in as a cashier, a completed sale’s detail view has no void option at all.

Void a sale

  1. Open Sales History and click View on the transaction to void.
  2. Type a reason in the Reason for void field. A reason is required; the Void transaction button stays disabled without one.
  3. Click Void transaction.

The transaction’s status changes to voided, and the detail view now shows who voided it, when, and the reason given.

Card charges reverse automatically

If the sale was paid by card, voiding it reverses the charge through Accept.blue at the same time, with no separate refund step. If that reversal fails, the void does not go through and the sale stays marked completed, so the record stays accurate to what the customer was actually charged.

Cash and store credit

Voiding a cash sale does not move any money; it only changes the transaction’s record. The same is true for a sale paid with store credit: voiding it marks the transaction voided, but it does not put the spent credit back on the customer’s balance. If credit needs to be restored, add it back manually. See Adding store credit to a customer balance.
